Indiana University's Center for Behavior and Systems Innovation (CBSI) builds upon the nationally recognized HANDS in Autism® model to advance implementation of evidence-based practices through training, consultation, systems innovation, resource development, and community-engaged research. The Center partners with autistic individuals, families, educators, healthcare providers, employers, community organizations, and state agencies to improve outcomes across educational, healthcare, employment, justice, and community settings.

About the role

Training Specialists serve as implementation specialists who provide education, consultation, technical assistance, programming, and resource development to strengthen local capacity across Indiana and beyond. They work alongside researchers, instructional designers, navigators, data specialists, operations staff, and community partners to support evidence-based practices in various settings.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver professional learning opportunities, workshops, consultation, and technical assistance for educators, families, providers, healthcare professionals, employers, and community organizations.
  • Develop and update evidence-based training materials, implementation resources, and educational tools responsive to community and partner needs.
  • Support statewide, national, and international training initiatives that promote implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Contribute to newsletters, online learning communities, webinars, and outreach efforts that support dissemination of Center resources and innovations.
  • Conduct assessments, support action planning, facilitate implementation, and monitor progress for individuals, collaborative sites, and community partners.
  • Provide consultation, direct programming, implementation support, and resource navigation across educational, healthcare, employment, justice, and community settings.
  • Support Ask-Learn-Share offerings, Learning Labs, collaborative partnerships, and other Center initiatives that strengthen local capacity.
  • Develop and update practical tools, resource guides, and implementation materials that support individuals across the lifespan.
  • Maintain timely documentation, correspondence, and communication with caregivers, referral sources, providers, and interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Support externally funded initiatives, implementation projects, and community-engaged research activities.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, marketing and communications staff, navigators, operations staff, data specialists, and subject matter experts to develop, review, and disseminate evidence-based resources.
  • Review, catalog, organize, and continuously update Center materials while maintaining an efficient registry and monitoring system.
  • Translate research findings into practical tools, educational materials, and implementation supports that respond to emerging community needs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned topical areas and contribute ideas that strengthen Center programming, innovation, and sustainability.
  • Complete required university and research compliance trainings.
  • Contribute to development and continuous improvement of Center procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, quality improvement, and evaluation activities.
  • Support pre-service student learning and interdisciplinary training opportunities.
  • Maintain project timelines, calendars, communications, and coordination across Center initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Center priorities and strategic goals.
  • Serve as liaison to key stakeholders in public and private sectors on partnership opportunities advancing institutional initiatives.
  • Initiate and maintain frequent interactions with relevant partners ensuring strong collaborative relationships.
  • Develop knowledge of issues and needs of initiatives, programs, and partners to make appropriate connections with university and external resources.
  • Serve as a community resource facilitating programs, providing technical assistance, and ensuring communication to optimize project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with university and external partners to identify funding needs and potential sources; participate in developing external funding proposals.
  • Communicate partner expectations with unit leadership to assist in operationalizing project outcomes; collaborate in the timely delivery of logistical, budgetary, and support functions.
  • Determine and track key project metrics and assist in analysis and report development.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Institutional Advancement Consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in outreach, engagement, public relations, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon hire.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in special education, psychology, social work, behavior analysis, education, public health, human services, or a related behavioral health or service field (preferred).
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or supporting families, caregivers, educators, providers, or community organizations (preferred).
  • Experience delivering professional development, consultation, technical assistance, or implementation support (preferred).
  • Experience working collaboratively across education, healthcare, behavioral health, employment, justice, or community systems (preferred).
  • Experience supporting interdisciplinary or grant-funded projects (preferred).
  • Professional licensure or certification in an applicable discipline (e.g., education, behavior analysis, social work) or license eligible, where applicable (preferred).
