Training Specialist Bilingual (English/Spanish)
About the Role
The Training Specialist works as a member of the site management team, primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of staff training and designing student training for the program. The Training Specialist reports to the Program Director and may directly supervise other training staff in some instances.
Responsibilities
- Schedules, oversees, and provides opportunities for required annual and continued staff training necessary for compliance with licensing regulations, ROP standards, and site requirements.
- Oversees New Hire Orientation Training, Annual Recertification Training, Essential Subjects, and On-The-Job Training.
- Identifies employees on correction/improvement plans and provides additional training to ensure successful completion of the improvement plan.
- Coordinates training requirements with all departments and provides training classes for employees on all shifts, including after hours and weekends if necessary.
- Conducts student training as directed and required.
- Develops, refines, and conducts specific training topics as directed.
- Determines subject matter experts at each ROP site and schedules them to provide training for staff and students.
- Prepares and maintains annual and monthly training schedules for the program.
- Compiles, logs, files, and submits treatment and training documentation for monthly Key Performance Indicators.
- Maintains staff training documentation and ensures staff meets minimum training requirements as prescribed by ROP policy and licensing requirements.
- Monitors training materials (e.g., orientation and technical manuals) to ensure policies are current, accurate, and within site licensing requirements.
- Revises, updates, and maintains training materials as required.
- Ensures all aspects of the Positive Operational Culture are preserved from a training standpoint.
- Assists with hiring, evaluations, commendations, reprimands, and dismissals of supervised staff, if applicable.
- Reviews and approves time and attendance for supervised staff, if applicable.
- Assists with developing supervised staff by conducting training sessions and action plans, if applicable.
- Completes required reports and documentation in a timely manner, provides management with required reports, and advises of any problematic situations.
- Complies with and implements Rite of Passage Policies and Procedures.
- Ensures the highest standards are maintained to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and to ensure program compliance with agency licensing and ROP policies.
- Assists with the correction of deficiencies and quality improvement efforts.
- Attends and participates in all required meetings.
- Commits to attending and tracking all training and staff development classes to ensure sufficient annual training hours for this position and all supervised staff.
- Notifies the supervisor if annual training hours are deficient.
- Ensures the safety, health, and welfare of staff and students at all times.
- Provides encouragement, guidance, and resources to staff and students when needed.
- Models and ensures all program norms are upheld without compromise.
- Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students.
- Treats others with respect, confronts negative behavior, and supports confrontations.
- Ensures proper safe physical management techniques are followed at all times.
- Assists other staff members with emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned, verbally or in written form.
Requirements
- Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least four years of related experience (preferably ROP experience) or a Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience. Of the related experience, two years must be in a supervisory capacity.
- Familiarity with ROP procedures, policies, and program implementation.
- Hold instructor certifications in the following areas (preferred): CPR/First Aid, PPC, Crisis Intervention Techniques, Suicide Prevention.
- Working knowledge of the Positive Operational Culture program.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interview potential employees if required.
- Must meet the requirements to be an eligible ROP driver.
- Must possess a current State Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Strong knowledge of overall company operations and policies and procedures.
- Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to utilize resources available to complete assigned projects.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with the possibility of a varied schedule.
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
- Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all employees and outside constituents.
- Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a multi-task environment.
- Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.
- Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
- Supervisory experience preferred, if applicable.
