This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policy. We are looking for customer service-oriented professionals who are dedicated to safety.
Responsibilities
- Organize and coordinate training programs, including developing and presenting training materials and instructional programs.
- Monitor program effectiveness; track attendance and prepare periodic reports.
- Perform risk management and safety functions, implementing policies, procedures, and internal controls related to health, safety, security, and environment rules and regulations.
- Identify health and safety risks and recommend corrective actions to control and limit liability.
- Collect data and analyze accident or incident trends; investigate claims of damage or injury reported by passengers, pedestrians, or other drivers.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections such as post-accident and post-employee claims, injury inspections, and monitoring.
- Participate in compliance activities related to the environment, prepare regulatory reports, and coordinate corrective action or response to audit findings.
- Oversee and coordinate the federally mandated Drug and Alcohol testing program with other affected departments.
- Respond to serious accidents or emergencies to ensure proper investigation.
- Monitor development and maintenance of annunciation systems on buses; may oversee parking assignments.
- Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training to new drivers.
- Assist the Safety Manager in promoting a proactive safety culture through education, coaching, and accountability.
- Coordinate, deliver, and document all aspects of new hire, refresher, and remedial training.
- Collaborate with Operations, Dispatch, and HR to ensure training schedules align with service needs.
- Liaise between Safety, Operations, and Dispatch to ensure safety performance and behavior issues are promptly addressed and documented.
- Monitor and track trends, counsel, coach, and retrain deficiencies.
- Maintain required training documentation and completion for compliance with state certification, company policies, and district, state, and federal requirements.
- Conduct and document one-on-one safety coaching sessions for patterns of unsafe behavior with employees.
Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of transportation and safety experience preferred.
- Valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsements for a minimum of 2 years.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).
- Ability to conduct field observations and provide immediate corrective feedback.
- Application of knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and ordinances, including accessibility legislation, environmental protection, and worker health and safety.
- Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
- Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions (50% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations).
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
- Push and pull objects up to 100 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
- Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
