Trainer Adjunct -Electrical Workforce Training and Continuing Education

About the Role

WTCE Adjunct Trainers are professional educators who work on a limited basis to fulfill Texas Southmost College’s (TSC) mission, vision, values, and goals of providing quality education. Adjunct trainers serve as leaders, teachers, advisors, and facilitators of learning, focusing on workforce-related and continuing education classes. Positions are part-time and contingent upon departmental needs, with classes offered during daytime, evening, weekends, and some college holidays at various times and locations.

Responsibilities

• Teach program-specific Workforce Training and Continuing Education courses.
• Develop curriculum for selected classes as needed.
• Collaborate with the Workforce Training and Continuing Education Director to develop continuing education schedules.
• Teach courses at various times and locations, including evenings and weekends.
• Develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course following established instructional guidelines.
• Advise students in career and program matters.
• Provide timely, quality access to students through electronic communication or other appropriate methods.
• Strive for continual improvement of student success by planning an optimal learning environment, delivering high-quality instruction, and participating in the development of learning outcomes and assessments.
• Manage learning environments by maintaining accurate syllabi, attendance records, submitting grades, and providing constructive feedback to students.
• Deliver effective instruction by developing curriculum in line with College policies, integrating technology, and communicating clear expectations to students.
• Enhance the student learning experience by integrating real-life situations, interdisciplinary skills, and teamwork into lessons.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve measurable learning outcomes, including THECB core curriculum objectives and TSC-specific goals.
• Assess student learning through well-designed assessments and aligned learning opportunities.
• Promote continual improvement by revising curriculum and evaluating teaching effectiveness.
• Support TSC’s institutional effectiveness program by completing evaluations, sharing best practices, and improving educational effectiveness.
• Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active learning, engagement, and support for students.
• Maintain a learning-centered environment by being available to students during designated work periods.
• Refer students to appropriate academic and support services.
• Pursue professional development through graduate courses, internal training, or maintaining required credentials.
• Participate in discipline-specific activities for adjunct faculty.
• Attend the workplace regularly, including evenings, holidays, or weekends as required.
• Complete all required training and professional development sessions.
• Use interpersonal skills and sound judgment to collaborate with coworkers, faculty, staff, students, and customers.
• Support the College’s values and institutional goals as defined in the Strategic Plan.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand.
• Occasionally required to walk, sit, use hands to handle objects/tools, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
