Your Purpose

As a Train Body Repair Specialist, you will be responsible for restoring train bodies to optimal condition following damage. Your duties will include conducting detailed inspections to assess the extent of structural or cosmetic damage, applying industry-standard repair techniques, and using specialized tools to perform high-quality repairs. You will ensure all work complies with safety regulations and quality standards, contributing to the reliability and safety of the rail fleet. Efficiency, precision, and adherence to best practices are essential in this role.

Essential Functions

  • Utilize industry-standard techniques to restore trains to pre-accident condition.
  • Mend damaged body by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts; ensure all gaps and fits are to industry standards; remove damaged nose cones, panels, steps, handrails, etc.
  • Complete disassembly of locomotive components damaged during incidents.
  • File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces and prepare them for painting.
  • Perform paint repairs using sprayers.
  • Comply with all Brightline safety rules, guidelines, and standards.
  • Inspect equipment for any unusual or hazardous conditions; immediately address any unsafe conditions.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required, some college, technical certification, or vocational training preferred. 3+ years of professional experience in auto body repair, or similar maintenance operations, preferably in railroad, manufacturing, or similar environments.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of metal fabrication, welding, riveting, and composite repair methods used in train body restoration.
  • Skills: Operate a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., welder, soldering equipment, cutting torch, blocks, hammers, wrenches, sander, spray guns, etc.).
  • Abilities: Ability to interpret damage reports, schematics, and inspection findings to determine repair needs. Work effectively with other technicians, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate repair efforts.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.
  • Regularly stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl all day.
  • Work safely and effectively under pressure, including during emergency situations.
  • Make sound independent decisions within established guidelines.
  • Work in various weather conditions and perform manual tasks.
