Trails Technician I

About the role

The Trails Technician I position at Jefferson County Open Space offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of open space trails and infrastructure. This role requires a combination of manual and semi-skilled labor, along with training and mentoring responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Construct and maintain trails using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
• Maintain trails, install erosion control devices, and inspect the trail system.
• Perform vegetation control, construct stairs, tie walls, and fence.
• Assist in field supervision of LTEs, Trail Stewardship Team field crews, and Volunteer Programs.
• Train and assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of trails and related infrastructure.
• Conduct inspections of trails and provide oversight of limited, seasonal, and volunteer workers.
• Communicate and educate the public on trails usage and regulations.
• Perform snow removal activities using hand tools and power equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent certificate.
• One or more years of specific trails maintenance/construction experience.
• Experience with Natural Resources and/or instruction.
• Additional course work in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Park Maintenance, or related fields preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including skid steer, roller/compactor, water pump, chainsaw, and hand tools/power tools.
• Physical ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
