Construction Technician I

Intertek is seeking a Construction Technician to join our Building & Construction team in El Paso, TX. This position offers the opportunity to grow a versatile career in construction assurance, testing, and inspection. Our Building and Construction division provides innovative project solutions across multiple architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines, serving as a risk management and quality assurance partner for new developments and existing assets.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
• Operates testing equipment and conducts testing (e.g., soil, concrete, or other materials) and provides assessment of data through reporting.
• Works utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
• Uses specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
• Makes detailed observations and provides limited interpretation of results.
• Maintains detailed documentation and data from test results.
• Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
• Communicates effectively with client and project teams.
• Adheres to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record is required.
• Willingness to travel overnight, with 25% travel required.
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and solid interpersonal skills.
• Basic math, calculator, and computer skills.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Ability to work off-shift and overtime as needed.
• External (or task-related) certifications based on region and state may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of work experience in construction.
• Previous construction materials testing experience.
• Third-party certifications related to construction material testing (e.g., ACI, ICC, and/or Asphalt Certifications).
