Traffic EIT

About the role

We are currently searching for a Traffic Engineer Intern (EIT) to support our Gulf Region located in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, or Tuscaloosa, AL. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Alabama if out of state.

Responsibilities

• Aid in the preparation of technical reports for traffic impact studies, interchange access requests, or safety studies
• Contribute to the development of traffic impact studies, land use planning, master plan studies, traffic signal warrant studies, bikeway planning and design, community and campus planning, technical report writing
• Participate in the creation of temporary traffic control plans, traffic management plans (TMP), and signing, pavement marking plans
• Assist in the preparation of conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings, and engineering reports
• Support the preparation of roadway design plans
• Attend project meetings with clients
• Learn project budgets to meet financial metrics
• Potential to learn and participate in business development activities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• Recent college graduates encouraged to apply
• EIT (E.I) Certification is desired but not required
• 0 - 4 years of experience in transportation planning, including comprehensive corridor analysis, local programs, public involvement, safety and access, pedestrian and bicycle planning, multimodal planning, and traffic operations
• Familiarity with DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO
• Familiarity with traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS
• Familiarity with OpenRoads Designer
• Self-starter and capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight
• Effective communicator, both orally and written
• Willingness and motivation to curate and develop a personal client base

Qualifications

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment
• Valid driver’s license
• A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Skills

• Knowledge of DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO
• Familiarity with traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS
• Familiarity with OpenRoads Designer
