Traffic EIT
About the role
We are currently searching for an experienced Traffic Engineer Intern (EIT) to support our Gulf Region located in Brentwood/Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga, TN. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Tennessee if out of state.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the preparation of technical reports for traffic impact studies, interchange access requests, or safety studies
- Contribute to the development of traffic impact studies, land use planning, master plan studies, traffic signal warrant studies, bikeway planning and design, community and campus planning, technical report writing
- Assist with and prepare temporary traffic control plans, traffic management plans (TMP), and signing, pavement marking plans
- Participate in traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations
- Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings, and engineering reports
- Contribute to and prepare roadway design plans
- Attend project meetings with clients
- Learn project budgets to meet financial metrics
- Potential to learn and participate in business development activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification preferred
- 2-4 years of experience in transportation planning, including comprehensive corridor analysis, local programs, public involvement, safety and access, pedestrian and bicycle planning, multimodal planning, and traffic operations
- Familiarity with DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO
- Familiarity with traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer
- Self-starter and capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Willingness and motivation to curate and develop a personal client base
Qualifications
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment
- Valid driver’s license
- A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
