About the role
The Trades/Utilities Master Mechanic maintains, inspects, services and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment in assigned academic buildings. This position troubleshoots and repairs any mechanical or electrical failures, responds to trouble calls to shut down equipment and make repairs in a safe manner, and inspects buildings for safety hazards and repair as needed.
Responsibilities

- Troubleshoots and repairs any mechanical or electrical failures.
- Responds to trouble calls to shut down equipment and make repairs in a safe manner.
- Inspects buildings for safety hazards and repair as needed.
- Designated Emergency Personnel, reports to work during emergency situations and closings.
Requirements
- Current Virginia Journey or Master Level license in electrical, plumbing trade or HVAC trades. OR current Journey or Master level licensing agreement (reciprocity) from another jurisdiction (State) as approved by the Virginia Board for Contractors which must be converted within 6 months.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience at the journey level in electrical and mechanical trades in an industrial, commercial or institutional trades environment.
- Working knowledge of blueprints, technical drawings and/or sketches.
- Recordkeeping experience.
- Ability to learn and use the computerized Facilities work order system to enter time, obtain, create and edit work orders, and request materials.
- Excellent communication skills; be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace, have good team work skills and work independently without direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
- Experience with an online work order management system.
- Previous lead worker and/or supervisory experience.
