Mechanic Trades Helper
Principal Responsibilities
- Aid journey-level technicians with repair, installation, and maintenance tasks across multiple trades.
- Prepare work areas by gathering materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, reporting shortages as needed.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures while working in various environments.
- Transport materials, tools, and equipment between job sites.
- Assist with routine inspections of building systems and components.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs under guidance.
- Complete and maintain accurate work order documentation.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations as required.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in maintenance, construction, or related field preferred but not required.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Willingness to work in various environments (indoor/outdoor, heights, confined spaces).
- Reliable transportation to report to various work sites as needed.
- Basic math skills for taking measurements and calculating materials.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety practices and procedures.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts.
- Basic computer literacy for work order systems and documentation.
Desired Skills And Competencies
- Previous experience in one or more trade areas (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
- Vocational training in facilities maintenance or construction trades.
- Knowledge of building codes and standards.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience with building automation systems.
- Basic blueprint reading ability.
- Experience with maintenance management software.
