Master Trades Specialist (Plumber)
About the role
Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in a skilled trade (plumbing).
Hours for this 4-day, 10 hour position are Sunday-Wednesday from 3:30 pm to 1:30 am.
Essential Duties
- Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in a skilled trade (plumbing)
- Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete project
- Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job site
- Auxiliary support for outside contractors and other tradespersons as needed
- Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner
- May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files
Minimum Qualifications
- Nine months training beyond high school in a skilled trade and three years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license and the ability to be a qualified driver under the Universities MVR policy
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular skilled trade
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagrams
Additional Position Information (if Applicable)
Frequent standing and walking with some climbing and lifting of materials weighing 50 to 75 pounds. Frequent operation of equipment. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable. Some element of personal risk and exposure to accidents.
