Trades Mechanic

About the role

The Trades Mechanic supports building maintenance on the VT campus and assists plumbing and electrical trades as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks in carpentry, masonry, and painting in support of building maintenance.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and operating manuals.
• Keep accurate and complete records and manage inventory.
• Use a computer and maintain safety standards.
• Communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
• Maintain physical fitness to perform heavy lifting and work in various weather conditions.
• Work in emergency situations as required.

Requirements

• Journeyman level experience in carpentry, masonry, and painting.
• Valid drivers license.
• Ability to perform painting tasks.
• Industry terminology recognition and understanding.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
• Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, climb, and work from elevated positions.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• Health and safety medical check.
• Respirator use capability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in large commercial or educational settings.
• Experience in painting and glazing.
• Experience in work order/inventory management systems.
• Basic computer skills.

Pay

$41,000 - $51,000 annually
