About the role

The Trades Maintenance Specialist I position within the Facilities Management Department is a journey-level role responsible for performing skilled analysis, repair, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and vehicles. This role also involves leading fabrication and modifications of equipment, systems, and facilities based on verbal instructions, sketches, or technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled analysis, repair, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and vehicles;
  • Leads fabrication and modifications of equipment, systems, and facilities based on verbal instructions, sketches, or technical drawings;
  • Inspects, services, and maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles;
  • Conducts quality-control analysis on equipment and systems, implementing necessary corrective actions for optimal performance;
  • Maintains detailed records of activity, operations, service, and usage for equipment, vehicles, and systems;
  • Prepares oral and written activity reports and estimates for complex operations, maintenance, and special projects;
  • Prepares sketches and drawings to communicate work plans to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors;
  • Captures and coordinates activities with other units, agencies, or contractors to ensure efficient resource use and minimize disruptions;
  • Monitors contractor performance, including goods and services provided;
  • Manages the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols;
  • Ensures the use of safety and personal protective equipment and implements work-site traffic control procedures;
  • Oversees the maintenance and care of turf grasses, trees, and ornamental shrubs, including pest control, fertilization, and addressing plant health issues.

Requirements

  • Two years journey-level experience in cabinetry, carpentry, and structural steel;
  • Or two years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Apprentice or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in commercial framing, drywall, doors, windows, and insulation;
  • Experience with/knowledge of installation and repairs of millwork, countertops, hardware, and finish carpentry;
  • Experience with reading and interpreting blueprint drawings;
  • Experience with/knowledge of metal studs framing and fabrication of small scale projects such as awnings and shade structures.

Skills

Essential skills include technical skills, experience and knowledge in the area of specialization, and accountability for activities ensuring services or products comply with written procedures, engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, industry standards and statutory codes and requirements.
