Tower Lead/Top Hand

About the Role

As a tower lead for our Ohio market, you will assist the crew foreman with site management duties that include tower and ground operations, sweep testing, tower maintenance and installation, coaxial and antenna installation, and required RF testing. You will interact daily with customers and subcontractors, communicate work progress and issues to the foreman, and provide training, guidance, and leadership to subordinate climbers and tower technicians to maximize safety, productivity, and quality while minimizing costs.

Responsibilities

• Climb towers and work at heights up to 500 feet, performing manual labor in outdoor environments
• Complete and submit required paperwork by deadlines
• Travel extensively with frequent overtime, including evenings and weekends
• Perform LTE upgrades and other telecommunications tasks
• Adhere to OSHA safety and quality guidelines
• Demonstrate crane signals and perform rescues
• Train and develop subordinate staff
• Apply safe and proper complex rigging procedures, including working load limits, weatherproofing, tower precon, and advanced cathead knowledge
• Read and understand construction drawings and RFDS
• Follow rigging and mounting procedures for all antennas and equipment
• Understand carrier-specific color codes and routing guidelines
• Direct tower top troubleshooting and configure RETs
• Complete Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), conduct tailgate meetings, and run tiger teams
• Use a compass and understand declination
• Lift up to 75 pounds
• Drive and back up a truck and trailer competently
• Perform vehicle inspections and complete daily DOT paperwork
• Communicate effectively and respectfully, both verbally and in writing

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify as an approved company driver
• Ability to pass pre-employment processes: background check, DOT inspection, and drug screen
• Ability to obtain a DOT physical card
• Basic computer skills

Certifications

The following certifications are required and may be completed in-house:

• ComTrain certification
• OSHA 10 certification
• TTT1 certification
• Connector training
• First Aid/CPR training and certification
• PIM certification and ability to use PIM gear
• Sweep certification and ability to use sweep gear
• Fiber certification and ability to use fiber gear
