Toolmaker - 2nd Shift

About the role

Velosity Forest Lake is searching for a Toolmaker on either 2nd or 3rd shift to support our manufacturing facility in Forest Lake, MN. The Toolmaker is responsible for executing tasks to support the building, service, and repair of molds, tooling, and fixtures. This is an on-site position.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm (flexible with hours)

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $28.50 – $42.75 per hour. This role is also eligible for our 5% target bonus program.

Responsibilities

• Build tool components at a high level of accuracy; tooling must be free from errors requiring unnecessary rework to repair or replace components
• Maintain tooling through execution of repair and maintenance; provide quick turnaround on repairs and service
• Perform preventative maintenance on all molds
• Build precision gages and fixtures to support other manufacturing areas; understand component and/or mold manufacturing and make decisions on in-process tolerances
• Create documentation notes as needed for tools constructed
• Assist production and maintenance on tasks when needed
• Plan and schedule tasks and projects; work with the Quality Manager to create or update position procedures book following documentation change control policies
• Set up and operate most standard tool room equipment including conventional mills, lathes, surface grinders
• Suggest improvements to molds or processes including materials and machines
• Examine standard or previously used molds, tools, and jigs and fixtures; recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part
• Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools; draw or sketch designs for repair or improvement
• Demonstrate and maintain safe execution of work activities; conduct 5S activities and follow all safety rules and regulations
• Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S practices (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED in General Studies
• 2-year technical degree in tool and die or mold making preferred
• Valid identification and the ability to work legally in the United States
• 5 years of experience in a tool shop

Physical & Mental Demands

• Walking required within office/shop areas
• Sitting, standing, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers
• Correctable eyesight and good depth perception
• Ability to sit for long periods; walk, sit and occasionally climb and balance
• Ability to lift 30 pounds and move objects safely using proper equipment
• Dexterity with hands
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them within a timely manner; make decisions with limited information

Work Environment

Non-smoking, professional manufacturing shop with normal lighting and climate control. May require movement throughout the shop and office and exposure to airborne contaminants and chemical odors typical of an injection molding/precision machining shop. Protective clothing required in certain locations: eye and ear protection, closed-toed/slip-resistant shoes.
