Primary Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Conduct regular inventories of all tools and equipment, including pneumatic tools, hand tools, calibrated items, drill bits, and bushings. Organize and maintain an accurate record of tool usage and condition.
- Tool Organization: Sort and categorize tools, ensuring that the tool crib area is organized and easily accessible. Set up and maintain tool crib areas, ensuring that all tools are stored in a logical and efficient manner.
- Tool Maintenance and Repair: Perform minor repairs on tools and equipment as needed. Coordinate with external vendors for non-inhouse repairs and maintenance. Track and manage the repair status of tools, ensuring timely return to service.
- Tool Procurement and Replacement: Identify outdated or worn-out tools and recommend replacements. Work with suppliers to test and evaluate new tools and equipment for potential use in production. Order spare parts and new tools to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Calibration Management: Manage the calibration schedule for all calibrated tools and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards. Work Cell Support: Set up and maintain tools and equipment required for each work cell. Ensure that all tools and equipment are readily available and in proper working condition for production use.
- Bushings and Drill Bit Management: Organize and order required bushings and drill bits, maintaining adequate inventory levels. Manage the setup of drills and drill bit kits for technicians.
- Tool Check-In/Check-Out: Oversee the daily check-in and check-out process for tools, ensuring accountability and proper usage. Maintain a log of tool usage and ensure that tools are returned in good condition.
- Future Planning: Anticipate future tooling needs based on production demands and ramp rates. Begin ordering long-lead items in advance to ensure timely availability.
- Standardization: Standardize hand tool toolboxes across the production floor, ensuring consistency and ease of use. Maintain and update toolboxes as needed to meet evolving production requirements.
Experience/Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in tool management or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in a tool crib, tool management, or a similar role in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform minor repairs on tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move tools and equipment weighing up to 30lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle and repair small tools and components.
