About the role

Under shop supervision, the Tool Builder/Bencher is responsible for accurately and efficiently deburring and surface finishing tooling and parts manufactured to customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Hand finish tight tolerance +/- 0.0025” surface tolerance and finish using basic Laser Tracker Techniques
  • Apply finishing techniques necessary for different materials
  • Use air tools and various hand tools for metal and composite tool finishing
  • Fix tools with Out of Tolerance Condition
  • Use manual inspection equipment and inspection techniques
  • Provide own tools

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working in a metal and/or composite finishing environment
  • Thorough understanding of finishing techniques for different materials
  • Thorough knowledge of air tools and various hand tools used in metal and composite tool finishing
  • Ability to use manual inspection equipment and inspection techniques
  • Must meet Export Control Compliance requirements; therefore, a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with vacuum and helium test tools
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Forklift and crane operating skills and certification

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Exposure to vibration and occasional caustic chemicals
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment
  • Occasional local travel during the business day
  • May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands
  • Mandatory eyewear and recommended safety shoes in the manufacturing area

Physical Demands

  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to see, talk, hear, touch, feel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to frequently walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs, occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
