About the role

As a Tool Maker 1, you will learn to build and maintain work-holding fixtures and spare parts while developing foundational tool-room skills under direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an apprenticeship or on-the-job training program.
  • Make and maintain spare-parts inventory for manual work-holding fixtures and hydraulic tombstones.
  • Service, repair, and troubleshoot all manual work-holding fixtures and hydraulic tombstones.
  • Train as a machinist: set up and operate manual machines to build spare fixture parts.
  • Build, repair, and maintain jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, and tools for manufacturing operations.
  • Perform hand operations to produce jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies using trade hand tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal/written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
  • Follow work instructions, standard operating procedures, and pre-established guidelines.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; keep machines, tools, equipment, and work surfaces free of oil, grease, chips, etc.
  • Participate in required safety toolbox discussions and monthly meetings.
  • Demonstrate commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity.
  • Uphold company standards for integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment, and a positive work environment.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with 1–3 years of prior manufacturing experience in a metal-working environment or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training.
  • Works under moderate supervision.
  • Knowledge of shop math necessary to perform required work assignments.
  • Strong teamwork and ability to cooperate and work proactively with others.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new tool-room skills and requirements.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.
  • May be required to work varying shifts or weekends as needed.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Self-motivated; willing to put in extra effort and hours as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work under deadlines and pressure.
  • Willingness to maintain company-required tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with company values.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, chemicals, lights/lasers, and machinery.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by position and/or company policy.
