About the role

Accenture Strategy & Consulting is seeking a Tolling Industry Principal Director, a recognized thought leader and senior practice builder who brings unparalleled expertise in tolling domain knowledge, industry strategy, and transformational program delivery. This role is accountable for driving the growth of Accenture's tolling consulting practice by originating and closing new client relationships, shaping and winning large-scale opportunities, and delivering transformational outcomes across the full tolling ecosystem. The Principal Director sets the strategic direction for engagements, mentors the next generation of tolling consultants, and serves as a trusted advisor to agency executives and government leaders navigating complex industry challenges. Ability to travel 75%-100%.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the growth of Accenture's tolling consulting practice by originating and closing new client relationships.
  • Shape and win large-scale opportunities within the tolling sector, including leading proposal development, executive-level positioning, orals presentations, and strategic partnership negotiations.
  • Deliver transformational outcomes across the full tolling ecosystem, including back office systems, customer service operations, and roadside systems.
  • Set the strategic direction for engagements and mentor the next generation of tolling consultants.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to agency executives and government leaders on complex industry challenges.
  • Lead and inspire large, matrixed, multi-disciplinary teams across client personnel, technology partners, subcontractors, and internal practice resources.
  • Develop market-relevant insights to increase market share or create new markets, progressing into market-facing roles with direct impact on sales.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 years of high-value consulting experience with proven expertise in the tolling, transportation, or public sector industries.
  • A minimum of 12 years of public service or transportation industry experience, including substantial tolling-specific work.
  • Mastery-level tolling domain knowledge across the full ecosystem:
    • Back office systems (enterprise billing, customer account management, interoperability hubs, financial reconciliation, violation processing, and enforcement).
    • Customer service operations (multi-channel service delivery, digital transformation, contact center strategy, escalation frameworks, and equity considerations).
    • Roadside systems (tolling technology architecture, gantry and lane systems, transponder and tag management, tolling enforcement technologies, and emerging vehicle detection platforms).
  • Comprehensive, current understanding of the tolling industry competitive landscape, including deep familiarity with major technology vendors, system integrators, peer agency strategic initiatives, emerging market entrants, and the regulatory, legislative, and policy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to qualify, shape, and drive large-scale new business opportunities within the tolling sector.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Industry strategy and consulting thought leadership, with a track record of bringing transformative insights to clients and the broader industry.
  • Authoritative understanding of challenges and opportunities in the tolling industry, including multi-agency interoperability, revenue leakage, violation enforcement, transition to cashless tolling, customer equity, workforce modernization, and sustainability of toll-funded infrastructure.
  • Experience serving in an executive advisory capacity for a major tolling authority or state DOT.
  • Experience leading the development of new tolling market strategies, business development playbooks, or industry-specific service offerings.
  • Experience structuring and leading P3 (public-private partnership) arrangements, major tolling system procurements, or complex multi-agency program governance structures.
  • Deep knowledge of and ability to advance innovations in tolling, such as connected and autonomous vehicle tolling, open tolling architectures, AI-driven customer and operations platforms, tolling-as-a-service business models, real-time data analytics, and mobility-as-a-service integration.
  • Proven ability to mentor and sponsor senior consulting talent and build high-performing tolling practices.
  • Experience with public speaking, publications, trade journal coverage, or active participation in trade associations (e.g., IBTTA, TRB, AASHTO, state tolling coalitions).

Pay

Compensation at Accenture varies depending on factors such as office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Below are the annual salary ranges for this role by location:

  • California: $163,000 to $434,000
  • Cleveland: $150,900 to $347,200
  • Colorado: $163,000 to $375,000
  • District of Columbia: $173,500 to $399,300
  • Illinois: $150,900 to $375,000
  • Maine: $138,800 to $319,400
  • Maryland: $163,000 to $375,000
  • Massachusetts: $163,000 to $399,300
  • Minnesota: $163,000 to $375,000
  • New York: $150,900 to $434,000
  • New Jersey: $173,500 to $434,000
  • Virginia: $150,900 to $399,300
