About the role

The position is under the supervision of the Community Development Director and involves planning and designing municipal public works projects. It includes coordinating construction and maintenance projects, inspecting and approving land use and construction plans, and providing customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in establishing policies and objectives for public works administration.
  • Coordinates construction and maintenance projects for residential, commercial, industrial, and community use.
  • Directs and supervises survey work, design drawings, specifications, inspections, and contractors, architects, and engineers.
  • Communicates with Tribal Council, administrative staff, and local officials regarding construction and maintenance projects.
  • Investigates complaints and ensures appropriate actions are taken.
  • Prepares and submits progress reports to the Community Development Director.
  • Maintains and updates data, files, records, and address files.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal ordinances and SCIT codes and ordinances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or related field; at least three years of experience in public works administration and/or municipal engineering.
  • Experience with periodic inspection of work progress, report preparation, and SCIT codes and ordinances.
  • Valid Michigan Operator’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer in Michigan or ability to become registered.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS systems.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and directing employees.

$67,371.20 starting salary.

Schedule

1st Shift, Monday-Friday, 8a-5p, with potential for extended hours and irregular shifts.
