The Why

Tier 1 Coaches bring this to life by fostering a passion for climbing in youth athletes and cultivating a motivating and educational practice environment.
The How
Tier 1 Coaches are inspired to support the next generation of climbers and excited to share their passion for climbing with youth athletes. They are patient, encouraging, and skilled at connecting with children to foster engagement and learning. They take safety seriously, demonstrating the diligence and attention to detail required to oversee a group of young climbers. They actively seek feedback, ask questions, and are eager to grow their skills to become an even more effective coach.
The What
- Develop foundational skills in youth athletes in accordance with Mesa Rim coaching standards.
- Execute training programs for athletes as directed by Supervisor, seeking feedback and striving to grow as a coach.
- Follow Mesa Rim Programming Procedures and Standards in all aspects of role, including consistent adherence to youth protection policies.
- Build rapport and trust with athletes, motivating them and encouraging their progress.
- Oversee a small group of athletes during each practice, managing time and group dynamic effectively.
- Serve as Mesa Rim cultural example, consistently demonstrating good sportsmanship and Mesa Rim Core Values.
- Deliver remarkable customer service to participants and parents.
- Acquire knowledge of all gym offerings (climbing, yoga, fitness, proshop, setting, youth programs, etc.) and share this knowledge with athletes and other facility guests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must-Haves
- At least 16 years of age
- Contribute to Mesa Rim Climbing Center culture
- Ability to seek & accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
- Positive attitude and be a team player
- Enjoy working with youth and have at least one year experience working with youth
- One year of climbing experience
- Basic knowledge of climbing technique and youth-specific training
- Inclusive coaching approach that fosters community, builds confidence, and nurtures individual development on and off the walls
- Strong communication skills
- Drive to grow professionally
- Able to work in an organized and transparent manner
- Pass criminal and sex offender background check
Nice-to-Haves
- Previous climbing coaching experience
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequently required to sit in a harness, climb or balance

Pay Range
$18.25-$20.50/hour
