Experienced Competitive Coach (Tier 2 or Tier 3)

Tier 2/3 Coach: Competitive and/or Recreational

The Why:

The How:

  • Promote a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Support the growth and progress of youth climbers.
  • Be a go-to resource for both your fellow coaches and the community.
  • Apply advanced understanding of climbing technique and strategy.
  • Motivate athletes to reach performance goals.
  • Observe and interpret athlete readiness and limits.
  • Represent the program to USAC, other gyms, and the climbing community.

The What:

  • Coach youth athletes who are climbing up to V6 or 5.12d.
  • Develop and refine skills for competitive performance.
  • Guide athletes through USAC competition rules and formats.
  • Support safe, sustained skill development.
  • Ensure consistent and quality recreational program delivery.
  • Adapt activities to varying skill levels.
  • Monitor social-emotional development and teamwork.

Must-Haves:

  • At least 18 years old.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A passion for climbing and working with youth.
  • A positive attitude and team player.
  • A reliable and professional demeanor.
  • An inclusive coaching approach.
  • Able to work in ambiguous or changing situations.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • A drive to grow professionally.
  • Able to work in an organized and transparent manner.
  • A criminal and sex offender background check.
  • Previous climbing coaching experience.
  • Three years climbing experience.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Experience coaching at championship level USAC events or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with USA Climbing (USAC) rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about coaching youth athletes.
  • Committed to the success of Mesa Rim’s coaching program.
  • Broad experience and exceptional coaching skills.
  • Exceptional individual athlete development, group management, and program operations.
  • Able to mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 coaches.
  • Able to serve as a primary contact for sensitive or complex parent/guardian communications.
  • Able to assist supervisor with program logistics and administrative tasks.
  • Able to recommend specialty coaches, workshops, or enrichment opportunities.
  • Able to serve as a Practice Lead.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
