Evaluations and Documentation
Evaluates prescribed imaging and makes requested changes within 24 hours, accurately documenting treatment information in the patient electronic record and utilizing the record and verify system.
Quality Assurance
Performs morning Quality Assurance (QA) on the treatment unit, assessing whether all equipment is operating according to physics policy and calling the appropriate person immediately after equipment malfunctions.
Supervision and Education
Aids in maintaining department supplies and provides supervised education experiences for students that fulfill curriculum requirements of the academic institution.
After Hours On-Call Coverage
Participates in after hours on-call coverage, maintains competency with after-hours treatment coverage, performs 2D treatment calculations, and works with minimal direction and supervision.
Treatment Verification
Verifies the physician’s prescription and treatment parameters daily to ensure accurate treatment of the patient in accordance with the prescription and treatment plan.
Patient Localization and Treatment
Performs CT Simulation, including administering contrast agents during simulation localization under the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner.
Other Duties
Immediately reports and documents adverse reactions to the managing physician and site leaders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Computer literate
- Proficient in Electronic Health Records and record and verify systems
- Knowledge of anatomical structures for localization
- Technical skills to accomplish treatment plans proposed by Radiation Oncologists
- Quick adaptability to departmental policies and procedures
- Maintenance of required registries and licenses for Radiation Therapy
- Understanding of Basic Radiation Safety concepts to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff
- Proficient in the use of Linear Accelerator, Treatment Planning Simulator, and patient tracking and scheduling systems
- Excellent clerical skills for record keeping
- Knowledge of radiobiology, doses to critical structures, and lymphatics for spread of disease
- Effective communication skills and ability to handle delicate or stressful issues with tact
- Physical and mental capability to perform job duties, including the ability to walk and stand for the majority of the workday, and handle weights of 35 pounds or greater
- Familiarity with a range of medical devices and systems including patient dose monitors, portal imaging systems, and patient immobilization devices
- Fluent in the English language and able to comprehend both written and verbal instructions
- Organizational, interpersonal, and customer relations skills
- Competence in grammar, spelling, keyboarding, and computer usage
Education and Experience
- High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
- Technical/Vocational School [Required]
- Field Of Study Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiation Therapy program
- 1+ radiation therapy experience [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Radiologic Technologists (CRT) [Required]
- OR Registered Technologist - Radiography (R.T.(R)ARRT)) [Required]
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
