Therapist (Internship)

Brief Description

Position Title: Therapist Internship
Reports to: Licensed Professional
Position Objective And Summary: Under the supervision of a Licensed Professional, the Therapy Intern provides individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy services to clients in a community based setting.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Performing mental health assessments of referred clients: interviewing clients and significant individuals and collateral contacts.
• Assessing clients’ needs and developing appropriate goals for services.
• Providing individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.
• Participating in supervision, team meetings and in-service training sessions.
• Collaboration with other social service agencies, schools, hospitals, courts, probation, corrections and public mental health organizations to make referrals or obtain case-related information.
• Collaboration with caseworkers assigned to client or client’s family to discuss progress of client and obtain case related information.
• Maintaining supportive documentation of case file, including written reports, case notes and other paperwork related to the case within established timeframes.
• Learning new knowledge through participation in agency sponsored training and supervision.
• Possibility of providing in-home counseling services.

Education/Job Experience/Certifications

• Enrollment in a 2nd year Master program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Bi-lingual, English/Spanish preferred.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to special populations and ability to interface with the community.
• Culturally competent, experience with LGBTQ population.
