Theater Instructor (PT)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the effective development and instruction of theater curriculum at Parker Arts. Coursework may include, but is not limited to, movement, characterization, acting, improvisation, voice, and musical theater for age-appropriate classes, camps, and productions. The role applies effective theater-training tactics and utilizes appropriate teaching resources to create and manage a safe, creative, and engaging learning environment that supports the artistic growth and enjoyment of all participants.

This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Town’s policies*

Responsibilities

• Develops comprehensive curriculum to introduce and teach theater and musical theater concepts, including but not limited to movement, characterization, improvisation, acting, voice, musical theater, and basic technical theater.
• Maintains a working knowledge of current theater methodologies, techniques, and age-appropriate instructional practices, and applies them to effectively to participants.
• Identifies and purchases necessary instructional materials within established budget guidelines.
• Independently instructs, leads, and manages classes with minimal supervision.
• Maintains accurate activity records, documents class attendance, and prepares reports as requested.
• Creates and sustains a positive, inclusive, and enjoyable learning environment while engaging with participants in a professional and supportive manner.
• Collaborates with substitute instructors for assigned classes within timelines established by the Education Manager.
• Supports the philosophies of the Town of Parker’s Cultural Department and adheres to all applicable policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in guiding the creative process in the performing arts, including teaching theater and/or technical theater, directing productions for youth and/or adults.
• Education (Bachelor’s, Associates, or degree in progress) in acting, musical theater, or theater preferred.
• Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within thirty (30) days of hire.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of theater teaching concepts and methodologies.
• Ability to provide proper instruction using both verbal description and physical demonstration.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and weekends when required.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage participants in a positive and professional manner.
• Ability to handle incidents reports and confrontations.
• Ability to demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to operate basic AV equipment.

Additional Information

• Working Conditions: Regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. May involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance.
• Physical Demands: Frequent physical activity and movement. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
• Environment: Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in classrooms at the PACE Center and The Schoolhouse.
