About the Role
VOA, a Certified Great Place to Work, is recruiting for a full-time Facility Assistant position at The Village on Sage Street in Reno, Nevada. The Village is primarily designed to serve working people earning minimum wage, or those with other income sources such as social security or disability, as a low-income housing option.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily work requirements to achieve the established objectives of the department.
- Explain program rules and regulations to tenants and facilitate tenants’ observance of the rules.
- Provide “awake” shift coverage and maintain grounds security at all times.
- Conduct hourly safety and security checks during designated periods (approximately half of the shift).
- De-escalate crises and respond to problems appropriately, providing emergency assistance to tenants and co-workers as necessary.
- Maintain daily reports to provide statistical information.
- Perform housekeeping, janitorial, and maintenance tasks as needed (e.g., change light bulbs, plunge toilets). Up to half of the shift may be spent on these duties.
- Prepare rooms for new tenants and maintain staff area cleanliness to meet health and sanitation requirements.
- Respond to tenant questions and concerns.
- Perform clerical duties on shift, such as answering the telephone, recording messages, and filing.
- Maintain clear, routine communication with all tenants.
- Respond to lockouts.
- Assist with tenant leases and community support.
- Support VOA staff in implementing policies and procedures; role model positive behavior.
- Ensure all areas of daily program maintenance comply with company policies.
- Document and report tenant concerns and/or infractions that impact program security.
- Complete shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
- Monitor inventory of program equipment and supplies; inform management of purchasing needs.
- Secure approval for exceptions to standard policy.
- Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs.
- Adhere to staffing schedules to provide adequate and safe coverage.
- Communicate with on-site staff, Community Administrator, Administrative Assistant, service providers, and external representatives as required.
- Comprehend and adhere to ethical standards, program philosophy guidelines, and confidentiality laws.
- Assist in training and development of new staff.
- Help the Community Administrator with department orientation and training of new employees.
- Maintain knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure a safe environment.
- Engage in self-development, continually enhancing technical and interpersonal skills.
- Attend staff meetings and assigned training; complete required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
- Provide services to tenants without ethnic or social prejudices.
- General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to seniors, lower economic-status individuals, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
- Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with tenants with varying needs and levels of functioning.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and function as a team member.
- Computer skills required.
- CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment; re-certification as necessary.
- Annual TB testing.

Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Physically able to safely maneuver the weight distribution of a tenant in an emergency.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently.
- Kneel occasionally.
- Climb stairs where programs have more than one level.
- Able to maneuver quickly in emergencies to assist tenants as needed.
Schedule
This is an overnight shift position working 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Pay
USD $21.17 per hour.
