About the role

The City of Gunnison is seeking a dedicated and experienced Patrol Officer to join our team. This position offers competitive compensation, benefits, and a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide law enforcement services to the community, ensuring public safety and responding to emergencies.
• Investigate crimes, conduct patrols, and make arrests as necessary.
• Handle traffic incidents, provide traffic control, and issue citations.
• Communicate effectively with the public, media, and other agencies.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
• Eligible to work and possess firearms in Colorado and the United States at the time of employment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have a qualified exception such as DACA recipient, refugee, or asylee.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license.
• A good driving and employment record.
• Lives within a 30-minute drive time to the city limits of Gunnison.
• No illegal drug activity within the last 36 months.
• Must possess a Colorado Basic Certification or Provisional Certificate at the time of appointment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must be able to pass a drug test.
• Must be able to pass a physical fitness test.

• Knowledge of firearms and defensive tactics.

Pay

The salary for this position is listed in the full job description. There is a differential pay for shift work and a signing bonus of $15,000 ('24 budget).

Schedule

Patrol Officers work 10 hour rotating shifts (Day shift, Swing shift, Grave shift). 4 days on, 3 days off. Every 4 months, assigned shifts and days off change with rotation. Shifts are assigned by shift bidding based on officer seniority for a yearly schedule.
