About the role

The City of Gunnison is seeking a dedicated and experienced Police Officer to join our team. As a Patrol Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring public safety and providing service to our community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patrol and investigative services to ensure public safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls and non-emergency incidents.
  • Conduct traffic stops and investigations related to traffic violations.
  • Participate in community policing initiatives and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Eligible to work and possess firearms in Colorado and the United States at the time of employment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid visa and work authorization.
  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, and physical fitness test.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job, including but not limited to, ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, and operate a police vehicle.

Qualifications

  • P.O.S.T. certification or provisional certification.
  • Experience in law enforcement preferred.
  • Knowledge of firearms and defensive tactics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.

Pay

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A signing bonus of $15,000 is offered, with $7,500 at hire and $7,500 upon completion of Field Training.

Schedule

Patrol Officers work 10-hour rotating shifts (Day shift, Swing shift, Grave shift). Shifts are assigned by shift bidding based on officer seniority for a yearly schedule. Officers are required to work weekends, holidays, and any shifts as assigned.
