Test Engineer
Typical Day
Directs and/or coordinates electronic engineering and/or technical personnel in fabrication and design of testing and test control apparatus and equipment, or software and systems testing.
Interfaces and confers with scientific, engineering and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data, data interpretation or coding issues.
Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by electronic or software engineering, and management personnel.
May develop or use computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electronic products and systems or software.
Trains and instructs floor support, test technicians and test operators on test hardware and/or software, as well as problem solving techniques.
Solves test yield problems by performing analysis of root causes, developing and coordinating corrective action measures and monitoring improvements.
Performs and supports equipment verification and integration in production.
Create and maintain process documentation.
Actively searches for new technologies or procedures in the test sector.
Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.
Specialized Job Responsibilities
- IN-CIRCUIT
- Develops and/or supports quality comprehensive test programs.
- Develops or modifies test models.
- Performs written analysis of fault grade.
- Develops quotes for test development and enhancements.
- Performs test ability analysis (DFT).
- Develops mechanical analysis of test fixtures.
- Collaborates with third parties on in-circuit program development, enhancements, and test fixtures.
- FUNCTIONAL
- Develops and/or modifies test programs using various languages (i.e. Python, Lab View, Perl etc.)
- Develops instrument drivers.
- Develops and/or supports diagnostic tests at the card edge level.
- Designs and supports functional test hardware, computer platforms and interfaces.
- Develops test plans and procedures.
- Collaborates with third parties on functional test development, enhancements, test fixtures.
- Develops quotations for functional test hardware and software.
- ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS SCREENING (ESS)
- Designs, develops and/or supports environmental test programs, procedures and profiles.
- Designs and/or supports mechanical/electrical interfaces for product tests.
- Performs failure analysis on environmental test failures.
- Collaborates with third parties on ESS activities.
- SYSYEMS & SOFTWARE
- Analyzes and interprets software or system level diagnostic failure (software and hardware).
- Develops and/or modifies software or system level plans and tests.
- Develops and/or supports quality comprehensive test programs.
- Develops quotes for test development and enhancements.
- Performs test ability analysis (DFT).
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electronics testing, software development, or similar field.
Skills: Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Lab View, Perl), knowledge of test equipment, familiarity with test methodologies and standards.
Other: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent communication and documentation skills.
