Responsibilities
- Supervise all departmental personnel and coordinate daily gate and terminal cargo handling operations.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate administrative functions to meet customer standards and maximize profits.
- Participate in hiring, promoting, demoting, and terminating employment decisions.
- Supervise subordinate personnel to ensure consistent adherence to organizational requirements.
- Conduct employee training sessions on topics such as hazardous material handling, employee orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
- Set operations policies and standards, including determining safety procedures.
- Monitor operations to ensure compliance with administrative policies, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Conduct safety audits, attend company safety meetings, and meet with individual staff members to promote safe work activities.
- Maintain continuous improvement by analyzing expenditures, developing plans, policies, and budgets that increase profits and improve services.
- Implement schedule and policy changes.
- Monitor spending to ensure consistency with approved budgets.
- Conduct investigations to determine causes of accidents and improve safety procedures.
- Ensure staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Participate in the settlements of on-the-job grievances.
- Manage supervisory responsibilities for Office Manager, Terminal Superintendent, and Warehouse personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Operational knowledge of VLOG Terminal Operating System.
- A minimum of 3 years managing related union labor.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Experience with computerized operating systems.
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability (strongly desired).
- Valid CPR certification and a valid driver's license are required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC card.
