Tenure Track Position - Statistics/Data Science
About the role
The Statistics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications to fill multiple full-time, academic year, tenure track positions in Statistics and/or Data Science, with appointment beginning approximately August 12, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service while engaging in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Teach a range of statistics courses, including service courses, upper-division electives, and graduate-level courses.
- Mentor graduate students by advising MS theses.
- Engage in research that includes student collaborators and promotes scholarly productivity.
- Promote the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.
- Foster a respectful, collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings.
- Demonstrated potential for high-quality teaching of bachelors and master’s level statistics and/or data science.
- Demonstrated potential for advising master’s students in statistics.

Benefits
The typical teaching assignment is seven 3-unit semester courses per year on a 4–3 load, with opportunities for adjustments based on research mentoring, supervision of MS theses, or external funding.
Pay
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected. If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $97,788 - $107,628. If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $112,500 - $118,524.
Schedule
The typical teaching schedule is seven 3-unit semester courses per year on a 4–3 load, with opportunities for adjustments based on research mentoring, supervision of MS theses, or external funding.
