College of the Holy Cross – Department of Biology – Tenure-track Assistant or Untenured Associate Professor in Molecular Biology (August 2027 start)

About the role

The Department of Biology seeks a molecular biologist for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or untenured Associate Professor. Candidates will teach our introductory course (BIOL 161), which emphasizes biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular genetics, and will develop a new intermediate-level molecular-biology course with laboratory for Biology majors. The successful candidate will establish a research program that actively involves undergraduates; research area is open, although vertebrate facilities are extremely limited. A 3-2 teaching load, generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves, and a one-course reduction in the first year (2-2 load) are standard. Start-up funding is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Teach BIOL 161 (introductory biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular genetics).
  • Design and teach a new intermediate-level molecular-biology course with laboratory for Biology majors.
  • Establish and maintain a productive research program that engages undergraduates.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students in research and coursework.
  • Contribute to the department’s and College’s commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biology or a related field (required by August 2027).
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to inclusive pedagogies.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and the ability to establish a research program suitable for undergraduates.
  • Experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Pay

  • Assistant professor (0–1 year prior tenure-track experience): $102,500.
  • Assistant professor (2+ years prior tenure-track experience): $106,500–$109,500.
  • Untenured associate professor: $112,000–$114,500.

Salary within each range is based on qualifications and experience. The College supports visa sponsorship for eligible candidates, including H-1B petitions not subject to the $100,000 fee.
