About the role

The Department of Biological Sciences at Cal Poly Humboldt invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position with an emphasis in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a focus on biomedical sciences. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the health and medical sciences program, contributing expertise in molecular and cellular mechanisms of human health and disease.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assignments may include: BIOL 350 Cell Biology, BIOL 340 Genetics, and BIOL 105 Principles of Biology.
  • In year three of the appointment, the successful candidate may also be assigned BIOL 440 Molecular Genetics Laboratory, BIOL 450 Cell Biology Laboratory, BIOL 455 Cellular and Gene Therapy, BIOL 544 Stem Cell Biology, and/or ZOOL 476 Developmental Biology, depending on the expertise of this new faculty member.
  • Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
  • The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the University, profession, and to the community.

Requirements

  • An earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Molecular & Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related Biomedical field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment.
  • Excellence in, or clear potential for, university-level teaching and creating a student-centered learning environment.
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing original research on cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, or a closely related biomedical discipline in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Record of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence that incorporates a variety of methodologies at undergraduate and Master’s level.
  • Experience with, or potential for establishing an active research program with external support that can be sustained at a primarily undergraduate institution.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse student and/or research populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.
  • Record of, or potential for, involving undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarly activity.

Qualifications

  • A record of teaching effectiveness in undergraduate cell biology and genetics courses.
  • An established extramurally-funded research program in cell biology or genetics.
  • Commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing diversity.

Pay

The Assistant Professor Classification annual salary range for this position is $74,652 - $158,688; the anticipated starting annual salary is $80,000.
