About the role
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Dr. John T. MacDonald Foundation Biomedical Nanotechnology Institute are seeking a tenure-track Associate Professor.
Responsibilities
- Seek and obtain extramural funding, preferably federal funding
- Publish in high impact scientific journals in their respective field of research
- Teach and mentor undergraduate, medical, and graduate students as well as postdoctoral and medical fellows
- Establish and manage an independent research group
- Develop new tools for researchers, surgeons, and clinicians
- Develop biomaterials for researchers across the Miller School of Medicine and throughout the University
- Interface with clinicians
- Serve as the Director of Basic Research in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery
- Coordinate with faculty and research staff to ensure high-quality proposals are being submitted
- Position the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery to successfully compete for extramural funding with the NIH, PCORI, PSF, and other federal, state, and local sponsoring agencies
- Auxiliary responsibilities include promoting interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the University campus
Requirements
- A degree in Biochemistry or a related field
- Ability to seek and obtain extramural funding, preferably federal funding
- Ability to publish in high impact scientific journals in their respective field of research
- Ability to teach and mentor undergraduate, medical, and graduate students as well as postdoctoral and medical fellows
- Ability to establish and manage an independent research group
- Ability to develop new tools for researchers, surgeons, and clinicians
- Ability to develop biomaterials for researchers across the Miller School of Medicine and throughout the University
- Ability to interface with clinicians
- Ability to serve as the Director of Basic Research in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery
- Ability to coordinate with faculty and research staff to ensure high-quality proposals are being submitted
- Ability to position the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery to successfully compete for extramural funding with the NIH, PCORI, PSF, and other federal, state, and local sponsoring agencies
- Ability to promote interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the University campus
