Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Organismal Biology

About the role
The Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Organismal Biology, beginning in August 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in the introductory course BIOL 162, which introduces a diverse array of topics in organismal biology, and will develop upper-level organismal-focused courses (with lab) for Biology majors that complement existing offerings. The candidate will establish a productive research program suitable for undergraduate participation; research area is open, though facilities for vertebrate research are extremely limited. A commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and research, with demonstrated ability to teach and mentor all students, is essential.
Responsibilities
- Teach the introductory organismal-biology course (BIOL 162).
- Design and teach upper-level organismal-biology courses with laboratory components that complement the existing curriculum.
- Establish and maintain an active research program that engages undergraduates.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate students in both coursework and research.
- Contribute to the department’s and College’s missions of academic and inclusive excellence.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field, completed by the start of the appointment.
- Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and undergraduate teaching.
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogies and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Ability to teach introductory and intermediate organismal-biology courses.
- Experience or clear potential to mentor a diverse student body.

- 3-2 teaching load with a research leave prior to tenure review: either a full year at 80% salary or a semester at full salary.

Pay
