About the Role

The Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University seeks three full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors of Biology with expertise in evolutionary developmental biology, genetics, or physiology (immunology experience preferred). The candidate will join a dynamic community of over 400 undergraduate majors and a growing master's program, focusing on providing students with a broad background in biological sciences while supporting specialized subdisciplines.

Responsibilities

• Teach in-person courses to Biology majors and non-majors, including General Biology, Genetics I, or Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
• Develop and teach upper-level biology elective courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
• Mentor undergraduates in research and contribute to the Master of Science program through teaching or research mentoring.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committee work, curriculum development, and student advising.
• Engage in independent scholarship and incorporate undergraduate students into research projects.

Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field by September 1, 2027.
• College-level teaching experience of undergraduate students.
• Ability to teach lecture and laboratory sections in specified courses.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and undergraduate research mentoring.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-doctoral research experience and experience mentoring undergraduate research.
• Well-developed research plan incorporating undergraduate students.
• Research with a model organism that complements departmental offerings at a BSL-II level or lower.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of or openness to culturally responsive pedagogical techniques.
• Familiarity with or openness to adopting innovative technology for engaged learning.

We offer concentrations in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Biomedical Science and Pre-medicine, and Secondary Education. Our mission is to train students for biotechnology, research, education, and healthcare careers, with a strong focus on undergraduate research and student success. Pay

A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the MSCA contract.
