Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Chemistry
About the role
The Department of Chemistry at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2027. Excellence in research and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Analytical and/or Physical Chemistry, with flexibility to teach in additional sub-disciplines. The position requires developing a robust research program that engages undergraduate and M.S. students.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including laboratory sections, in Analytical and/or Physical Chemistry and other sub-disciplines as needed.
- Develop and maintain an active research program that incorporates undergraduate and M.S. students.
- Submit grant proposals and manuscripts to peer-reviewed research journals.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university governance through committee service and other assignments.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System.
- Demonstrate awareness and experience in meeting the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive teaching strategies and materials.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or equivalent doctoral degree.
- Research experience in one of the sub-disciplines of chemistry.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in one of the sub-disciplines of chemistry with a desire to teach in Analytical or Physical Chemistry.
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research students.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and rank as established by the CSU Salary Schedule. The anticipated hiring academic year annual salary range is $106,000–$109,000.
