About the role

This position is part of the Tennessee State Parks Operations maintenance series for the Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). It is located at David Crockett Birthplace State Park in Greene County.

Responsibilities

• Aid Park Rangers and Maintenance staff in controlled burns and fire suppression using hand tools, flappers, and fire rakes.
• Remove brush for fire prevention and safety.
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as cutting and trimming grass and tree limbs.
• Patch holes in roads and sidewalks to ensure public safety.
• Inspect grounds and facilities daily to identify maintenance needs and ensure public safety.
• Perform janitorial tasks including cleaning facilities, buffing floors, mopping, and other duties.
• Remove trash and clean trash cans.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on buildings and facilities.
• Assist in inventory of work-related supplies and materials.
• Communicate with the public to provide customer service and direct inquiries.
• Operate and repair various heavy equipment including backhoes, large tractors, and bobcats.
• Perform minor construction projects and general carpentry tasks.
• Perform minor roofing and HVAC repair tasks.
• Perform basic electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Install and repair plumbing fixtures and water lines.
• Lead and assign tasks to lower-level maintenance staff.
• Oversee and coordinate the work of TSP Maintenance Workers and TSP Maintenance Techs.
• Train TSP Maintenance Workers and TSP Maintenance Techs on proper and safe use of equipment and tools.
• Operate and utilize a variety of tools and equipment such as hand and power tools, plungers, and grinders.
• Perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment, vehicles, and tools.
• Perform basic welding for equipment repair as needed.
• Perform logging operations including chain saw operation for cutting down dead trees.
• Cut firewood as needed for park facilities.
• Complete work order request forms and keep records of work performed.
• Keep mileage logs and fuel tickets for daily vehicle operation.
• Perform physical labor tasks such as unloading truck shipments, moving objects, and setting up spaces for special events.

Qualifications

• Experience equivalent to two years of skilled full-time labor and trades experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
