Temporary Lifeguard

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service to program patrons and the general public.
• Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
• Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Works in a safe manner, reports unsafe activity and conditions, and intervenes when necessary.
• Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
• Assists with chlorine residual water tests, records and charts of water tests, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
• Completes incident and accident reports.
• Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration if necessary.
• Acts as a team member, maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors, and staff.
• Attends department and facility staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.
• Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• Able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard at the pool, including First Aid, CPR, and AED functions.
• Previous lifeguard experience is preferred.
• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) (high school student applicants are exempt).

Schedule

Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
