Responsibilities
- Provides customer service to program patrons and the general public.
- Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Works in a safe manner, reports unsafe activity and conditions, and intervenes when necessary.
- Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
- Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
- Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
- Assists with chlorine residual water tests, records and charts of water tests, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
- Completes incident and accident reports.
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration if necessary.
- Acts as a team member, maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors, and staff.
- Attends department and facility staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.
- Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- Able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard at the pool, including First Aid, CPR, and AED functions.
- Previous lifeguard experience is preferred.
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) (high school student applicants are exempt).
Schedule
Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
