About the role
Lifeguard positions are available at the Kamehameha Schools' Maui Campus Athletics Program. These are temporary, on-call positions with shifts based on operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the oversight of the swimming pool and surrounding areas.
- Enforces pool rules and water safety policies.
- Administers first aid and performs CPR as necessary.
- Monitors pool water chemistry and cleans the pool and related facilities.
- Supervises swimming activities and field trips, ensuring safety and compliance with rules and regulations.
- Resolves scheduling conflicts to maintain a safe pool environment.
- Evaluates water conditions and adjusts programs accordingly to ensure safety.
- Teaches swimming lessons as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of swimming pool chemistry and water testing.
- Ability to evaluate water conditions and adjust programs accordingly.
- Ability to render first aid and perform CPR.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of proper swimming techniques and ability to teach all age levels.
- Previous ocean lifeguarding experience.
- Previous experience working in a school setting.
- Knowledge and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred qualifications include 1st Responder Certification, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), 6 months of related work experience, and previous experience teaching school-aged children.
Skills
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Swimming pool chemistry knowledge.
- Ability to evaluate water conditions and adjust programs accordingly.
- Ability to teach swimming lessons.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings, including beaches and outdoor environments.
