Pool Duties
- Checks and interprets gauges, flow meters and other monitoring equipment to ensure the City’s swimming pools are operating efficiently.
- Maintains and monitors disinfectant levels according to health code standards; conducts water tests and accurately records findings; inspects bath houses for clean health environment.
- Performs water filtration and circulation maintenance; calibrates equipment used for chemical dispensing.
- Inspects water slides, pool structures, flow rider, lazy river, and spray park features to ensure they remain safe for public use.
- Affords assistance in training and directing the work of seasonal pool cleaners for compliance with established health codes.
- Participates in maintenance for equipment to ensure longevity and maximum efficiency.
Laborer Duties
- Mows grass and sprays weeds; lays sod; waters and fertilizes grass and landscaped areas; applies pesticides.
- Performs minor repairs to buildings and facilities; installs and removes signs; maintains parks equipment.
- Removes ice and snow; installs and removes snow fences.
- Works with and provides skilled trades personnel with assistance on various carpentry, plumbing and irrigation system projects.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning of Park buildings.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with/knowledge of water quality control and system component maintenance.
Necessary Special Qualifications
- Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana Driver’s License.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator’s Certification – preferred.
Requirements Of Work
- Working knowledge of proper management of water and facility operations, water quality, system components operational limits, and routine preventive maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of the machines, tools, chemicals and terminology required for the operation of aqua recreational systems.
- Good knowledge of flows, pressures and capacities of pipes and other equipment.
- Ability to assist with installment and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to participate in emergency repair activities.
- Ability to repair small pumps and vacuums.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Working knowledge of landscaping and grounds keeping.
- Working knowledge of methods and equipment used in building cleaning and maintenance.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, skid steers, backhoes, mini-excavators, and other machinery.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not supervise but provides technical guidance and work review for staff members.
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Exposure to cold, heat, snow, wind, and rain, noise, dust, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.
- Provided with personal protective equipment and required to follow standard operating guidelines to prevent exposure to hazards.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, crawl, bend, twist, kneel, reach, grasp, pick, pinch, push, pull, ride and perform similar body movements.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient hand/eye coordination to operate maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and a motor vehicle.
- The ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone or two way radio.
- The ability to see and read dials, instructions and reports.
Expected Hours of Work
- A 40-hour work week, including weekends.
- Work is typically performed Thursday through Monday or Friday through Tuesday; may include nights, overtime, weekends and holidays.
- This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
- Overtime must be authorized prior to working.
Travel
- Primarily local during the business day.
- Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
