About the role

UW-Green Bay welcomes the submission of application materials from persons interested in custodial positions that may arise at our Manitowoc and Sheboygan campuses. This posting does not apply to a specific current opening. Respondents to this posting will be included in a general custodial services pool, and as positions become available, applications will be screened.

These positions would report to the Building and Grounds Manager and work to maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the designated work area. Work performed in this position includes manual cleaning and maintenance of UWGB buildings.

Responsibilities

General areas of responsibility include: cleaning offices, restrooms, and other building areas; maintaining all floor surfaces including mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing; cleaning windows (inside and outside); cleaning furniture; assisting with furniture, piano and equipment moves as required; stocking restrooms and custodial work areas with necessary supplies and products; waste and recycling removal; snow removal and salting of building entrances.

  • Assist with special event setups
  • Grounds duties including lawn care
  • Maintain all floor surfaces including mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing
  • Perform snow removal and salting of building entrances & parking lots
  • Change and/or replace light bulbs
  • Remove waste and recycling
  • Clean offices, walls, blackboards, dry erase boards, windows, furniture, restrooms, and other building areas
  • Assist with furniture and equipment moves

Requirements

Applications will be considered for vacancies that occur from November 20, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Credentials are ensured consideration for the period noted. In order to remain eligible for consideration beyond June 30, 2026, you must re-apply during the next posting application window beginning July 1, 2026.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application
  • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodial work
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population, creating a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment on collaborative efforts
  • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at a college or university
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heavy lifting methods to ensure safety
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions including Internet browsing and e-mail

Physical Demands

Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair and ladder climbing. Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist occasionally, and 30 lbs. from floor to overhead occasionally. Ability to stand and walk continuously through 8-hour work shift. Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions.

Conditions Of Appointment

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed. A six-month probationary period is required for this position.

Eligible employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
