Reports to: Department Director/Building Administrator • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt • Compensation: Hourly

About the Role

Assists students with learning, understanding, and comprehending materials that teachers have presented. Motivates pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a strong educational foundation, tailored to each pupil's ability. Establishes good relationships with parents and staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Works with teaching staff to identify areas where tutoring assistance is needed for individual students.
  • Assists students with learning by reviewing content, explaining problem-solving techniques, and checking completed work.
  • Helps students develop study skills and organization techniques to improve academic performance.
  • Maintains necessary reports on students and shares them with supervisors, teachers, and parents.
  • Supervises groups of students and serves as a role model.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Elementary Education (subjects listed below) or Alternative Teaching Certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education:
    • Early Childhood (PK-3)
    • Elementary Education (1-8)
  • Previous experience in an urban school setting preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and establish effective working relationships.
  • Passion for helping students learn, with the ability to introduce new perspectives on difficult skills and concepts.
  • Patience, a positive attitude, and strategies to motivate frustrated students.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so others may understand clearly in classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
