Temp: Secretary
The position is posted to create a pool of candidates for temporary positions that arise during the school year. Assignments can range from short-term to long-term, depending on the school's needs.
About the Role
- Answers and screens telephone calls and visitors.
- Handles requests and complaints from parents, students, and offices.
- Enrolls new students and completes fall/spring kindergarten enrollment.
- Maintains student records/files.
- Withdraws student records and forwards them to new schools.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student records and personal data.
- Schedules and copies materials for meetings.
- Prepares and maintains office records of all students on class lists, student folders, card files, index cards, and attendance records/reports.
- Receives and provides messages and makes telephone calls for teachers and principals.
- Composes and distributes reports, letters, forms, lists, newsletters, memos, agendas, schedules, and/or other correspondence.
- Operates and maintains standard office machines and equipment.
- Receives, sorts, and distributes mail.
- Affixes instructional requests, tests, and other materials as assigned.
- Signed students in and out of school, issues tardy passes, and keeps absentee/tardy records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

- Exercises initiative and good judgment in executing delegated administrative responsibilities.
- Exercises tact and cooperation in dealing with students, Board of Education personnel, contractors, and/or outside agencies and the general public.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Proficient with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency certificate required.
- One (1) year recent office experience performing work of a progressively responsible nature required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language if assigned to bilingual program.
