About the role
The Receptionist will work under the direct supervision of the Health Center Manager and the general supervision of the Regional Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Follows protocols of Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, Inc. (CHCCC)
- Greet patients professionally and courteously
- Manage provider schedules to ensure access and efficiency
- Aid patients through the registration process
- Receive payments for rendered services
- Manage patient schedules, including anticipating missed opportunities and referring triage calls to nursing staff
- Schedule patients according to protocol and confirm appointments within 24 hours
- Assist with pre-visit planning and complete patient forms
- Enter and update demographic and payer data in practice management system
- Verify coverage and payer eligibility, including programs, private insurances, Medi-Cal, and sliding fee
- Inform patients about available services and programs
- Observe for patients in distress and report to nursing staff
- Maintain knowledge of practice management system, payers, and Standard Work
- Manage inventory of paperwork and ensure most up-to-date forms are used
- Issue visitor passes when required
- Perform various clerical duties
- Adhere to and observe safety policies and procedures, including infection control rules and regulations
- Show knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics)
- Show cultural sensitivity and competence with patients
- Comply with HIPAA, employee confidentiality, and privileged communications (patient, employee, and corporation)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum one year of customer service experience in a medical setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable
- Bilingual - ability to read, speak, and write in English and another language is desirable
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding required
- Microsoft Office skills preferred
- Working knowledge of EHR preferred
- Certificate in Medical Front Office procedures desired
- Possession of current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License (Class C) required
- CPR (BLS-C) card preferred
Other Requirements
- Pass a criminal history background check upon hire
- Annual health examination
- Annual Tuberculosis skin test clearance or chest x-ray
- Proof of immunity to MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
- Proof of Tdap vaccine
- During current flu season, proof of influenza vaccine or signed declination form required
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends, and travel as needed
