Teen Boys Residential Home Manager
Avidity is seeking an experienced, hands-on Residential Home Manager to lead a residential group home serving teen boys. This role is ideal for a leader who will take ownership of the home, build relationships with youth, and ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
About the Role
This is more than an administrative or supervisory role. The Home Manager is responsible for creating a safe, structured, nurturing, and accountable environment where youth can grow, develop life skills, and prepare for adulthood. While the Home Manager is not expected to physically work or remain continuously available 24/7, this position carries overall leadership accountability for the home, including awareness of significant incidents, availability for urgent consultation, and follow-up on overnight and weekend concerns. This role requires flexibility beyond a traditional Monday-Friday schedule, including periodic evening, weekend, and after-hours involvement.
Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the successful day-to-day operation of the residence.
- Maintain a consistent leadership presence and ensure expectations are followed across all shifts.
- Know the youth, their routines, personalities, strengths, behavioral needs, appointments, school expectations, and goals.
- Identify and address concerns before they escalate.
- Ensure the home is clean, organized, safe, adequately supplied, and appropriately maintained.
- Maintain compliance with Avidity policies, DCF requirements, contractual expectations, and quality standards.
- Develop professional, trusting relationships with each youth and be actively involved in the daily life of the home.
- Reinforce expectations, routines, responsibilities, and appropriate boundaries.
- Help youth develop accountability, problem-solving, communication, emotional regulation, and independent living skills.
- Celebrate accomplishments while providing appropriate structure and consequences.
- Participate in treatment, school, care-team, transition, and discharge-planning meetings as needed.
- Provide clear expectations, supervision, coaching, and accountability to Direct Care Staff.
- Observe staff performance and address concerns promptly.
- Monitor attendance, call-outs, scheduling, and overtime.
- Promote consistency between day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
- Ensure staff maintain appropriate professional boundaries and utilize approved behavioral and de-escalation practices.
- Participate in interviewing, onboarding, training, and evaluating residential staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, education, behavioral health, criminal justice, child welfare, or a related field and/or a combination of education and substantial relevant residential experience that meets agency and applicable licensing requirements.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working with children or adolescents in residential care, foster care, behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile services, or a comparable environment.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience managing challenging adolescent behaviors.
- Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions during challenging situations.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet agency driving requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screenings, training, and credentialing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Group Home Manager, Residential Manager, Program Manager, House Manager, or Residential Supervisor experience.
- Experience with Florida's child welfare system, DCF requirements, or youth in foster care.
- Knowledge of trauma-responsive care and behavioral de-escalation.
- Experience helping adolescents develop independent living skills.
Skills
The ideal candidate naturally takes ownership, follows through, notices problems, makes decisions, develops staff, and genuinely cares about the youth. You should be able to lead with both care and accountability, nurturing enough to build meaningful relationships with youth and strong enough to provide the consistency, boundaries, and leadership they need.
