About the role

The Technology Support Specialist in the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is responsible for helping instructors with using campus supported learning management systems and related technologies, assisting with associated research, and creating online self-help resources. The Technology Support Specialist will champion inclusive teaching practices, ensuring diverse perspectives and student needs are reflected in the course technology and content.

Responsibilities

  • Train and support faculty in the use of teaching technologies including Canvas, iClicker, ProctorU, and other CITL supported services.
  • Consult with faculty on the effective use of technology for teaching in online, blended, and face-to-face learning environments.
  • Support and promote digital accessibility established practices by helping instructors understand ADA requirements for instructional technologies and digital content; assist with the modification of instructional materials to improve accessibility; and refer instructors to appropriate campus accessibility resources and services as needed.
  • Attend course planning meetings as needed and provide follow-up support for teaching technologies.
  • Design, develop, and deliver faculty training and workshops on teaching technologies.
  • Develop and revise online resources including tutorials, knowledge base articles, technical documentation, and related web content.
  • Work closely with Tech Services staff to accomplish seamless support of shared campus services.
  • Stay current with emerging educational technologies, including AI applications in teaching and learning, and incorporate relevant innovations into support practices.
  • Provide back up for other Instructional Support Team staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in IT‐related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
  • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).
  • Demonstrated experience in an instructional support role in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience with Canvas and/or other Learning Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience developing educational, web-based materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in software training, technical documentation, and/or providing training workshops.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring.
  • Experience supporting teaching technologies.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: instructional design, computer lab support, classroom support, web conferencing training, student response systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI and their application for use in education.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, and generative AI.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and ADA compliance requirements within instructional technology and higher education contexts, including applied experience with Universal Design for Learning.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to function in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time-management skills including the ability to meet deadlines in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
