About the role

The Engineering Technician II plays a crucial role in the First Solar Team, focusing on reliability operations such as module testing and qualification, ensuring products meet industry standards and warranties.

Responsibilities

  • Able to work independently with less supervision.
  • Support Engineer on improvement projects on both product and testing equipment.
  • Solve day-to-day equipment issues.
  • Prepare and update summary reports for reliability investigations and test metrics.
  • Develop and update internal documentation including drawings, work instructions, and equipment specs.
  • Aid in worldwide equipment and test method replication.
  • Ensure reliability tests are completed on schedule, including sample acquisition, testing, and data entry.
  • Perform intermediate data analysis using JMP and SQL applications.
  • Communicate any abnormal findings promptly.
  • Train new technicians in module testing, equipment operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform baseline or post-test measurements as needed.
  • Participate in Durability & Stability meetings and present data (when required).
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Assist with other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Proven communications and attention to detail skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Electrical preferred) with 2+ years of work experience in a manufacturing or lab environment, or Associate Degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Calibration/testing/measurement experience required.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of JMP and SQL applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience as outlined in the job description.
  • Proven basic data analysis skills.
  • Average to excellent computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • Good team player.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of tools and operating equipment (micrometers, multi-meters, power supplies, data logger).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Will walk, climb stairs, reach overhead, bend, talk, and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear a respirator as required.
