Technician - Radiology PD Variable

About the role

Under general supervision, provides high-quality radiographs for diagnosis of patients referred to the X-ray Department. Rotates on a stand-by schedule as required for radiology coverage and performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiology procedures efficiently, explaining procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort, and positioning them on the exam table.
• Select technique parameters in keeping with ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
• Review and evaluate digital images for quality to determine if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
• Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
• Check patient identification bands before transporting and before performing any procedure.
• Safely transport patients to and from the Radiology department using the proper transportation device, informing the nurses’ station of patient movements and signing appropriate documents.
• Refer to the departmental procedure manual to ensure all standard views are taken and follow any special instructions indicated by the physician or radiologist.
• Maintain and clean equipment, accessories, and supplies, ensuring the Radiology room is stocked and cleaned daily.
• Perform general office duties, including answering phones, filing, scheduling patients, writing reports, and maintaining patient records.
• Function as a department receptionist as requested.
• Complete all procedures scheduled during the shift without compromising quality.
• Respond to changes in the work schedule and demonstrate flexibility during interruptions.
• Perform work accurately and timely during crisis and emergency situations.
• Maintain rooms, materials, equipment, and medicine in a ready state to increase overall efficiency.
• Assist others in the department as requested, including receptionist and clerical duties.
• Report "free-time" to the supervisor and volunteer for additional work.
• Assist in institutional in-service programs for staff and nursing as requested.
• Help develop the skills of other staff members in areas of expertise.
• Demonstrate knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire and safety, and infection control, including radiation safety procedures.
• Refer unsolved problems to the appropriate person.
• Check requisitions throughout the shift to ensure all procedures are completed.
• Utilize supportive personnel effectively to focus on patient care responsibilities.
• Assume personal responsibility for ongoing education and professional development.
• Maintain supplies at par value levels, inventorying and ordering as necessary.
• Assist in cleaning and organizing the department and maintain orderliness in areas of responsibility.
• Instruct students as required.
• Become oriented and trained prior to using new equipment.
• Practice preventive maintenance procedures and report needed repairs to the supervisor.
• Follow through on procedures and report incomplete assignments to ensure continuity.
• Attend required in-service, orientation, education programs, and hospital meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology.
• Pass a National Test (ARRT) and hold a State License (CRT).
• Current certificate of the CRT and BCLS (AHA).
• Current Fluoroscopy certification.
• At least one year of experience as a Radiology Technologist preferred, or completion of a student rotation with Garfield Medical Center’s radiology program.
